One of Creative Space’s longest-standing clients, the VC Group has gone from one building on Mission Road to an ever-growing portfolio of Boyle Heights buildings that now house several in-demand artists, highly-respected private art galleries, and flagship tenants like Mia Lehrer Architects, Salt & Straw, and YEAH! Rentals. From early conversations that focused on the charm of many of the area’s industrial buildings—particularly their craftsmanship, ghost signage, and contours that followed defunct railroad tracks—to the present day, in which we continue to work together based on instinct, slow and organic neighborhood development, and an emphasis on finding spaces and tenants that will continue to elevate the area, the collaboration between VC Group and Creative Space has enthralled and enlivened everyone on both sides.

Creative Space’s Geoff Anenberg has led these adaptive reuse and brokerage collaborations since its inception, working initially on finding distribution facilities for this garment manufacturer and now on continuing an ongoing acquisition and occupancy plan. The first purchase was a building a few doors down from the Group’s existing headquarters; Geoff successfully approached a major (and private) artist about setting up a studio and gallery, a commitment that sparked broader community interest that has paid dividends tenfold. Our strong relationship with the VC Group has proven to be a template for our other successful collaborations in their demonstrated trust for our vision and ability to execute and our talent for envisioning and then creating value that hadn’t yet been imagined.
