Hauser & Wirth / West Hollywood

On the heels of their success in LA's Arts District, Hauser & Wirth tasked us in mid-2020 to guide and expand their LA footprint westward. With the hopes of gaining closer access to their vast network of artists, curators, and collectors, Creative Space combed the market to find a property that fit Hauser & Wirth's specifications for location, size, program and character.

The historic Heritage Classics building (originally built in 1931 as a Ford dealership), located at 8980 Santa Monica Blvd along the northern edge of the Design District in West Hollywood, was quickly identified as the ideal fit. The building features a white stucco facade, expansive windows, vaulted wood truss ceilings and red tile roofing, distinctive of the 1930s Spanish Colonial Revival-style architecture of Hollywood's Golden Age. Continuing in our now decade long role as Hauser & Wirth's Los Angeles real estate partner, we secured a long-term ground lease with an option to purchase (a rarity for this market) and have developed the project on the gallery's behalf. Creative Space brought back the core team involved in the development of Hauser & Wirth in the Arts District, including Selldorf Architects who designed the new 10,800-square-foot space.
